EdReports pre-K reviews are grounded in research and offer an independent, educator-informed evaluation of the quality of early childhood instructional materials. They’re designed to help teachers and leaders make local curriculum decisions.

Pre-K Report Structure

EdReports pre-K reviews are organized into three sections, called gateways, each with a specific focus. In pre-K, all materials are reviewed against all three gateways, regardless of performance in any individual gateway. Each gateway includes multiple criteria, and each criterion includes multiple indicators.

How Are Ratings Determined in EdReports Pre-K Reviews?

Our educator reviewers rate each individual indicator, or specific element of quality, based on evidence in the materials.

These indicator ratings are then used to determine criterion ratings using a rule-based approach. This ensures that criterion ratings represent consistent strengths or gaps rather than being driven by a single strong or weak area.

Meets Expectations

Half or more of the indicators are rated Meets Expectations.

None of the indicators are rated Does Not Meet Expectations.

Does Not Meet Expectations

Half or more of the indicators are rated Does Not Meet Expectations.

Partially Meets Expectations

The indicator ratings do not meet the conditions for either Meets Expectations or Does Not Meet Expectations.
